Our Leading for Purpose program is designed for volunteer, charity and not-for-profit organisations. This is a nonprofit sector leadership coaching model delivered by executive coaches who have experience leading in the nonprofit, corporate and public sectors.

Leaders in this sector face particular challenges that can include:

  • multiple stakeholders;
  • mixed volunteer and professional workforces;
  • uncertain funding streams; and
  • governance models that are in development.

Opportunities for leadership development can be limited by the small size of many organisations in the not-for-profit sector. And the pressure to prioritise resources to the immediate needs of clients often trumps investment in capability.
This program is designed around those particular needs and delivered in the context of the sector.

Executive Central offers leaders in the not-for-profit sector, and other ‘For Purpose’ business models, a professional development program that is often only available in large corporations and government agencies.

The Leading for Purpose program is suitable for leaders who have significant responsibility and those who are on a leadership journey, such as: directors, executives, emerging executive talent and recently promoted managers.

The program starts with a detailed needs analysis so we can tailor solutions to your organisation’s specific needs. We use group and personal coaching to support and challenge participants towards taking their seat at the leadership table. The program is supported by the involvement of managers or mentors.

Participants complete projects, such as relevant reading and completion of the Strengthsfinder Inventory.


Group workshops provide a team environment in which to learn from and with others. The facilitator introduces stimulus material on PowerPoint, pre-reading requirements and media, and suggested follow-up resources.

We create a relaxed and open environment in which people can test their ideas and have informed critical conversations with their peers. We link topics to the experience of the participants, and approach facilitation by putting participants at the centre.

This guarantees a high level of engagement from the audience.


One-on-one coaching develops self-awareness of strengths, values and attitudes. It also identifies areas for further development. Coaching provides a confidential environment in which:

  • you are supported and challenged;
  • a platform on which to fine-tune strengths and explore professional challenges;
  • the opportunity to communicate your vision and values;
  • assistance in developing long-term strategies for organisation and individual success, and;
  • the encouragement and affirmation needed to for you to reach your desired outcomes.


We recommend that participants organise into a peer learning partner system. Having a learning partner means that you have someone who can give you a reality check, insights or a boost. We recommend that learning partners meet independently from the structured workshops, with an agreed combination of grabbing a coffee together, phone contact or emails as required. All learning partner relationships evolve in their own way.


Participants are asked to prepare for the group workshops with reading and reflection. We source current articles and papers from research providers such as McKinsey and HBR, and provide insights from academic and industry or professional journals. Digital media includes links and video as further stimulus and inspiration.

Our Leadership Snapshot is a lean assessment based on the LCAT.

We tailor the survey to ensure all elements of individual client needs are investigated and language is his consistent. The Leadership Snapshot produces detailed and powerful insights about the participant’s leadership style and effectiveness.

It surveys the perspectives of participants, their manager/s and professional observers or colleagues to produce a snapshot of competencies across a section of the I-WE-YOU leadership framework.

The Innovation and Effectiveness Diagnostic analyses the strengths and weaknesses of your organization and its teams through an online survey. It provides an overall score for organizational effectiveness — the Organizational Effectiveness Measure (OEM) – and from this, the degree to which your organizational culture is either helping or hindering innovation can be determined.

We have long been able to measure individual performance through 360 measures. Now the the Innovation and Effectiveness Diagnostic applies a tool backed by scientific rigour to produce that perspective and data for understanding an organization’s cultural effectiveness for innovation.

The Life Styles Inventory™ (LSI) can be used during the needs analysis process of a coaching assignment. It is one of several assessment tools that can be used to determine needs.
