Context and Overview
Mott MacDonald’s Melbourne office recognised that their emerging leaders needed more than technical expertise to thrive in a dynamic, globally integrated organisation. The Organisational Development Team wanted to strengthen their leadership pipeline with a program that would build capability aligned with their unique culture while providing practical tools for sustainable performance.
Working closely with the Mott MacDonald OD Team, we took time to deeply understand their culture, capability priorities, and leadership challenges. Together, we adapted our proven Emerging Leaders Program framework to create a bespoke Future Leaders Program that would resonate with their business context and deliver real impact.
The program was carefully sequenced to build both personal insight and collective capability. It incorporated 360-degree assessments with individual debriefs to establish self-awareness and translate feedback into actionable insights. Strengths assessments and group debriefs reinforced collaboration and created a shared language. Virtual learning sessions and group coaching embedded key leadership practices and sustained growth throughout the journey.
Six core modules formed the backbone of the program: The Journey to Leadership (exploring leadership identity and the I/WE/YOU framework), Self-Awareness (understanding individual strengths and operating styles), Business Acumen and Leadership Levels (building systems thinking), Time and Priority Management (enhancing strategic focus), Delegation and Improvement (empowering others), and Coaching for Performance Discussions (applying coaching techniques to drive engagement).
Key Challenges for the Client
- Building a leadership pipeline aligned with their unique culture and global context
- Developing self-awareness and confidence in emerging leaders
- Creating sustainable behaviour change beyond one-off training interventions
Outcomes
Through deep collaboration and co-design, the program empowered emerging leaders to grow their confidence, self-awareness, and influence across the organisation. The integration of 360 and strengths feedback created tangible shifts in leadership effectiveness.
Participants reported clear development breakthroughs. As one leader shared:
“The 360-feedback assessment was quite interesting. It helped me understand the key areas that I needed to develop. The options to invite different assessors provided an opportunity to understand people’s opinions about my skills as a leader/manager. It has helped me focus areas for my development.”
The partnership between Mott MacDonald Melbourne and Executive Central demonstrates the power of tailored leadership development. By aligning program design with business context and embedding reflective practice throughout, we’ve built capable, confident leaders who are ready to shape the organisation’s future.
